Photograph A Stranger assignment

Romanian Child
I was awarded 1st Place for my portrait titled Romanian Child in an assignment on Photoworkshop.com titled Photograph a Stranger (Assignment 25). These assignments are judged by Robert Farber, an award winning photographer from New York, who founded Photoworkshop.com. I won a signed copy of Robert Farber’s Nudes… and what a beautiful book!!
The great thing about these assignments is that Robert provides audio comments which explain what he was looking for and why he selected the winners. This is very useful information and I enjoy listening to his comments on all of the photographs entered for the various assignments. I learn a lot from them.

Arts Encounters at the Benini Sculpture Ranch
I was one of four guest artists who were invited to speak at the Benini Sculpture Ranch during their monthly Arts Encounters. I spoke and presented a slide show of photographs on the topic of “Cultural Photography” which included many of my images from my travels in Mexico and Europe (Hungary, Romania, Austria, Ireland).
These are great events and provide a lot of inspiration for me as I get to hear other artists speak and see their work. Highly recommended. Benini and his wife Lorraine have been instrumental in encouraging me to keep pursuing my art. I owe a lot to them.

Guest Speaker at Austin Shutterbug Club
I will be speaking on “Digital Infrared Photography” at the Austin Shutterbug Club this coming Thursday, August 10th.
I recently spoke at the Gulf States Camera Club convention in April and at the Hill Country Photography Club on the same topic. It’s nice to see other people showing interest in a technique I’m so passionate about!

Published in American Art Collector

Swayback Barn
One of the images from my Prairie Solitude series, “Swayback Barn”, was selected as part of a juried competition of new work that was recently published in Volume 2, Book 4 of American Art Collector. Published quarterly, this book is available through Alcove Books. There were only a handful of photographers selected to appear in the book, so I was pleased to have been chosen.
