Flower Power

May 2nd to May 23, 2009

About the Theme - Flower Power:

Rodin spoke of the power of flowers when he wrote, “The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogs with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms, every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him.” This exhibition challenges photographers and digital illustrators to explore that dialog and express their interaction with nature’s floral beauty through their images.  Jurors were Laura Pickett Calfee and Carol Watson.

© Polly Chandler

Polly Chandler grew up in Southern Illinois and graduated with an MFA in photography from Southern Illinois University.  She has exhibited her work nationally and her photographs have been published in magazines such as Photo District News, American Photo and B&W Magazine.  Polly now lives in Austin, Texas and continues to make photographs as well as strives to challenge herself in her work.  About her body of work, she says “There are those occurrences that sit with us and settle into who we are.  Some are more forceful than others.  I am seeking to explore those identifiable instances that seem to slow time, and through my photographs, share the understanding of these moments.” Polly Chandler’s images can be viewed at http://www.pollychandler.com.
